History:
Bee Propolis is pleasant, sweet-smelling, resinous substance collected from various plants by bees, which they use as a building material (along with beeswax) to construct their hives. The sticky substance seals holes and cracks in the hive and coats the surfaces of the honeycomb cells; and so, when the bees return to the hive, they crawl through a slim Propolis-coated opening, thus removing microbes picked up outside the hive.  Propolis was recorded as a medicine over two thousand years ago, when Hippocrates prescribed Bee Propolis to remedy various afflictions, and in the first-century A.D., the Roman philosopher, Celsus, recorded instructions for its preparation in topical poultices.  It was also mentioned in the Islamic Koran  manuscripts from the sixth to the eighth centuries as a blood purifier, and also a remedy for skin problems and bronchial catarrhs.  Some of the constituents included in Bee Propolis are bioflavonoids, many trace minerals (copper, magnesium, silicon, iron, manganese and zinc), amino acids and virtually all vitamins (except vitamin K).

Beneficial Uses:
Bee Propolis is enormously popular as an immune system stimulant that helps the body to resist disease and illness of all kinds, including the discomforts of coughs, colds and flu and may even help to alleviate asthma.  It is said to stimulate the thymus gland and thus boost the thyroid gland for improved immunity and resistance to infections.

Considered a potent antiviral, Bee Propolis has been used effectively to combat pneumonia and similar viral infections. it is also said to treat genital herpes. Moreover, it is believed to boost the efficacy of other antiviral drugs.

Like all Bee products, Propolis is an excellent antibacterial that helps to combat all infection.  It is thought to stimulate phagocytosis, the process by which some white blood cells destroy bacteria.  Rich in nutrients, Bee Propolis is also considered a powerful antioxidant that has shown promise in combating liver disorders and the deleterious effects of free radical damage to cells.

Bee Propolis is believed to possess superior healing properties with its ability to accelerate new cell growth. This healing quality is thought to help relieve the discomforts of stomach and intestinal ulcers and has shown some beneficial effects on certain skin melanomas and may even extend to the healing of broken bones.

Topically used, Propolis is beneficial as a salve for abrasions and bruises because of its antibacterial effects. The supplement is also thought to relieve a sore mouth and/or teeth.

Some new research indicates the possibility of using Bee Propolis to promote healthy blood pressure  levels and reduce arteriosclerosis, thereby lessening the possible risks of coronary heart ailments.
