Herbal Ingredient Information:
The following information is a brief overview describing each of the above herbal ingredients and what properties each contributes to make up this proprietary blend.

•  Hawthorne Leaf is an excellent cardio-tonic.  It is thought to be especially effective in the beginning stages of heart disease, as well as speeding up the recovery time after a heart attack. Hawthorne is also believed to strengthen a weak heart muscle associated with age, relieve pressure and tightness of the chest, ease angina and myocarditis (inflammation of the heart), as well as mild cardiac arrhythmia.  The bioflavonoids found in Hawthorne interact with key enzymes in the heart to increase the pumping force of the heart muscle and eliminate arrhythmia. Hawthorne's rich flavonoids are also thought to dilate and open up the blood vessels (as a vasodilator), allowing oxygen-rich blood to get to the heart and reduce the risk of a heart attack.  Hawthorne reduces cholesterol and regulates blood pressure.  It appears to increase the liver's conversion of LDLs (bad cholesterol) into HDLs (good cholesterol) which helps to stop plaque formation in the arteries.  This is extremely beneficial in the treatment of arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, heart attack and strokes. •  Gotu Kola supports good cardiovascular and circulatory health. It improves blood circulation, and researchers claim it supports a healthy heart, slows heart rate, and lowers blood pressure.  Gotu Kola is a mild sedative that promotes a calming effect in the body and has been useful in treating sleep disorders.  Gotu Kola's astringent qualities help to detoxify the body by drawing fluid from tissues.  It promotes urination, helps to eliminate excess fluid from the body, and it is also effective in lowering fever. •  Oat Straw is high in protein and has an almost legendary reputation as a food of great value, frequently helping to increase stamina and energy.  Moreover, the bran, with its high fiber, has been shown in recent studies to significantly lower cholesterol levels in the blood, which is thus helpful in reducing the incidence of arteriosclerosis, heart attacks and stroke.  The fiber in the bran is also an important factor in maintaining the body's daily "regularity."  Oat Straw is a nerve food with calming effects that are known to strengthen the nervous system, treat nervous exhaustion, insomnia, attention deficit disorder and mild depression. •  Psyllium has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease.  Recent studies have shown that Psyllium lowered both cholesterol and triglycerides.  Soluble fibers prevent cholesterol absorption, and insoluble fibers have a scrubbing action as they pass through the intestines, ridding them of excess cholesterol and old excess intestinal debris.  It could also lower cholesterol by increasing bile-acid excretion.

Bile acids are digestive substances that are made from cholesterol and are normally reabsorbed from the intestine after they do their job, but when Psyllium absorbs bile and moves it through the intestines, the body has to take cholesterol out of the blood to make more.  Psyllium also helps slow cholesterol production by the liver, helping cells eliminate bad cholesterol, the kind believed to be responsible for closing arteries. •  Fenugreek Seed has been said to lower cholesterol in some studies.  In further studies, the herb decreased the levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL or bad cholesterol) in the blood without affecting the good cholesterol.  The seeds contain natural saponins (or "soaps") that cleanse the bulkier forms of cholesterol from the bile, and the high fiber content in the seeds may be another reason for its cholesterol lowering qualities. •  Apple Pectin significantly decreases the concentration of serum cholesterol levels.  Apple Pectin prevents absorption of cholesterol and helps lower blood cholesterol levels, thus reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke.  It also acts as an antioxidant against the damaging portion of cholesterol in the bloodstream. •  Bugleweed is said to tone the heart and stabilize rapid or irregular heartbeat with an effect similar to, but less powerful than, digitalis.  It is believed to increase myocardial contraction, strengthen the heartbeat, lower the heart rate and ease nervous tachardia and palpitations. •  Butcher's Broom has been used for centuries to improve circulation and to relieve discomfort caused by water retention.  Butcher's Broom strengthens the capillary walls and tightens veins supporting the circulatory system.  It also promotes blood flow to the hands, legs and brain.  One of the active compounds in this herb (ruscogenins) has vasoconstrictive and anti-inflammatory properties. •  Garlic helps prevent heart disease by reducing blood pressure and blood lipids. Scientific studies support the use of Garlic in lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood.  Studies have shown that people who suffered heart attacks, and then were given Garlic, had a lower incidence of a second attack.  Long-term use of Garlic helps to reduce excessive blood cholesterol and sugar levels, working to prevent heart attack and stroke, and it increases the level of beneficial HDLs (good cholesterol) while reducing the levels of LDL (bad cholesterol).  It also helps to dilate peripheral blood vessels, thus lowering blood pressure.  Garlic is a powerful anticoagulant that normalizes blood platelet adhesion by reducing the stickiness of the blood and stimulating fibrinolysis, a process in which blood clots are dissolved. •  Omega-3 Fatty Acids (EPA) have become popular as a supplement that can improve heart health.  They are believed to decrease platelet aggregation (blood clotting) and prevent the accumulation of plaque (cholesterol and fat) on the walls of the arteries, which helps to increase circulation and lower blood pressure.  EPA is also thought to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as hypertension. •  Bromelain is one of a group of proteolytic enzymes that are capable of digesting protein and is found in the stem and fruit of the pineapple plant.  Bromelain may support good heart health and lower blood pressure.  It is said to stop blood clot formation by inhibiting the platelet-activating factor (PAF), a chemical that signals blood platelets to form clots.  Inhibiting PAF short-circuits the entire clotting process and leads to lower blood pressure and reductions in angina pain.
