History:

Wheat Grass may, perhaps, be one of the most important plants to mankind, with its grains providing breads, cereals and food staples of all kinds. It is one of the oldest nutritional foods known to man and has been cultivated for so long that its origin is somewhat vague, although it appears to have been first grown and refined in the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions. Wheat is a hardy annual or biennial that is pollinated by win; and it tolerates most soils in temperate regions, preferring full sun and harvested around June and July. The plant's botanical genus, Triticum, is derived from the same Latin word, triticum, which literally means "Wheat" and also describes one of the carbohydrates found in Wheat Grass called triticin. There are over thirty thousand varieties of Wheat, with over four hundred varieties commonly grown in the United States, which is the largest exporter of the grain annually to other areas of the world, mainly to Japan and Egypt. Interestingly, Wheat was not a large crop in the United States before the late 1800s. Early settlers had a hard time growing European varieties of Wheat, with poor yields, but when Ukrainian Mennonites brought their hardy winter Wheat to Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota in the late 1800s, it flourished, and this Wheat is thought to be the ancestor of the varieties of Wheat grown in the United States today. The wonderful nutritious benefits in Wheat Grass appear to provide so many natural health qualities, and it is not really known quite how they work, but many people will agree that the amino acids - the essential building blocks of life - in Wheat Grass have added wonderful support for their healthy stamina levels and overall feeling of good health. Some of the constituents included in Wheat Grass include large amounts of chlorophyll, all the amino acids (some of which are lysine, tryptophan and phenylalanine), protein, fiber, enzymes, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, zinc, B-complex vitamins and vitamins A, C, E and K.
